Shivi Bhatnagar is a cinematographer, documentary filmmaker, editor, and analogue animator based in New Delhi, with close to a decade of experience in the film industry. She holds a Master’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication and found her way into cinematography through an interest in exploring the intersection of visual art and technology in storytelling. Over the years, her work has taken her across different parts of India and into diverse international contexts.
She values collaborative processes and often works with artists from varied socio-cultural backgrounds to create layered and reflective visual narratives. Her practice spans different production environments and formats, requiring an adaptable approach to visual storytelling. Her collaborative stop-motion film, अवार-नवार छोरियां / Every Now and Then Girls… (2025), received the Best Animation Film award at the Aravali Film Festival 2026 and a Jury Special Mention for Outstanding Humanistic Storytelling at the 14th Indo-German Film Week 2026.
Alongside her film practice, Shivi co-runs Choorma Studio, a Delhi-based design studio working across illustration, graphic design, comics, and animation. She is also involved in independent publishing through Inklab, where she collaborates with emerging artists to curate and publish comics.
Shivi conducts workshops on mobile filmmaking and visual storytelling, often in collaboration with NGOs. These initiatives focus on making media tools and storytelling more accessible, particularly for young people, women, girls, and community-based participants, using filmmaking as a tool for creative expression and empowerment.
