Devu Narayanan

Devu is a cinematographer based out of Mumbai. Originally from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, her curiosity in films lead her to pursue Media Studies at Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication, Pune. It was there that her love for cinema and visual story telling were nurtured by faculty like Ajit Duara (Film Appreciation) and Milinda Natu (Scenic Design). She then studied Electronic Cinematography at FTII, Pune and moved to Mumbai afterwards.

Hawaizaada was her first feature film, where she assisted DoP Savita Singh who is one of the founding members of IWCC. She has worked her way up from an intern to a 1st AC/2nd unit DoP. Her longest collaboration has been with DOP Manu Anand with whom she has done feature films like Zero, Dhamaka, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, etc and multiple ads and music videos as 2nd Unit DOP. She has also worked with veteran DoP S. Kumar in Malayalam film Makal and was an Associate to DoP Rakesh Haridas in Sue Me, a court room satire shot in North Kerala with 90% of the cast being non-actors from the village.

She believes that anything around you can inspire you and being observational and empathetic makes you a better storyteller.

She is currently DP-ing ads and promos and is looking forward to what’s in store for future.
