Dipita Sehgal | Cinematographer

Dipita Sehgal is a cinematographer based in Mumbai, originally from Delhi. Her journey into cinematography began with an interest in visual storytelling and a curiosity about people, their experiences and the worlds they inhabit.

In 2019, she had the opportunity to assist National Award-winning cinematographer Avik Mukhopadhyay on Sardar Udham Singh. This experience became an important turning point, introducing her to the scale, discipline and collaborative nature of filmmaking.

Since then, Dipita has worked across feature films, web series, advertising and documentaries, collaborating with Directors of Photography including Anup Singh, Ravi Kiran Ayyagari, Arjun Kukreti, Georgy John, Sarthak Johar, Manas Tiwari, Rohit Garge and Ashish Bajaj.

Her credits include Maharani Seasons 1 and 2, Engineering Girls Season 2, Very Parivarik Season 2 as Camera Operator, and Bulbul Marriage Hall as Second Camera Operator. She has also worked on an upcoming web series for Hotstar, currently in post-production. Her experience extends to numerous advertising films and documentary projects, including her work with DALBERG India across multiple countries as a DOP and Associate DOP.

Alongside her work within camera departments, Dipita continues to develop her own visual language as a Director of Photography. She is drawn to stories rooted in everyday life, human relationships and the complexities of being human. Her interest lies in observing people beyond familiar social narratives, particularly stories of children and non-binary individuals, and finding the emotions that connect seemingly different lives.

For Dipita, cinematography is as much about listening and observing as it is about creating images. She believes in staying curious, learning through collaboration and allowing each project to expand her understanding of the world.

Beyond filmmaking, she finds inspiration in travelling through unfamiliar cities and mountains, photographing strangers on the streets and observing the small, often overlooked details of everyday life. These encounters continue to shape the way she sees, feels and tells stories through her lens.
