Dhawalika moved to Mumbai after studying filmmaking from A.J. Kidwai Mass Communication Research Centre, Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi. She has worked on various fiction and documentary projects since. She likes to dabble in still photography as a medium of more personalised storytelling.
She has just finished the first leg of a narrative documentary photo project titled ‘Women in Renunciation’ where she spent over three months with Buddhist nuns of all ages, in various nunneries in Spiti, documenting their experiences as female renunciates. The next leg finds her documenting Hindu Sadhvis.
In 2015 she worked with documentary filmmaker Nisha Pahuja on the India Campaign of her film ‘The World Before Her’. She single-handedly helped organize the tour across four states over a period of three months. Apart from documenting the travels and the screenings with a camera she mediated the post screening discussions with a variety of audiences. You can find more about it on these links. She has also been shooting with Nisha on her next film.
